Mrs. Yvonne Rosalie Plagens' Obituary
PLAGENS, Yvonne Rosalie "Rosie", of Sebring, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Swankridge Care Center in Homestead, FL on May 10th, 2014 at the age of 75. Rosie was born to the late John and Hazel Martindale and her childhood was spent mostly in Detroit, MI and its suburbs where she met and married her surviving and loving husband of almost 58 years, Ray A. Plagens, Sr. of Rochester, MI. Rosie is also survived by her three adoring children, Ray A. Plagens, Jr. (Julie) of Elkhart, IN; Ross B. Plagens (Noelle) of Cheyenne, WY, and Dawn L. Baird (Neville) of Homestead, FL and six beautiful grandchildren: Christine and Sean Baird of Homestead, FL; Ross and Kuasha Plagens of Denver, CO; and Marisa and Morgan Plagens of Elkhart, IN, and one precious great granddaughter, Ayana Plagens of Denver. She was preceded in death by her brother John Martindale of Arizona, and she is survived by her brother, Robert Martindale, and her sister, Kathy Martindale, of Waterford, MI. Rosie lived a happy and blessed life with Ray and her children and made many, many friends as she lived in Clarkston, MI; Royal Oak, MI; Long Lake, MN; Homestead, FL; and Sebring, FL. She loved to spend time with her family and friends playing cards and other games of camaraderie. Her ability to memorize all the cards that had been played was miraculous. At her pinnacle, Rosie was nationally ranked as a Life Master in her favorite card game, bridge. Losing the ability to play bridge and her ability to speak clearly and joke around with others were possibly the most difficult aspects of Rosie's final years. Professionally, Rosie was a beautician for many years. She was incredibly talented with an artistic touch in decorating her home and those of her family and friends with flower arrangements, paintings, ceramics and talents involving stitching and macram‚. There was never a project that was too tough or too daunting that she would not try to tackle. Her wit was her greatest asset allowing her to make hearty friends. She loved practical jokes and April Fool's Day always had a fun surprise in store for her children. Rosie's legacy was certainly the intensity she put into being a great mother and grandmother. She never missed any of the children's games growing up and was always there to lend a word of love and encouragement as we needed her motherly advice. Rosie was loved by many and she will be sorely missed but we also celebrate that she is now at peace and she is an angel watching over us. Her life was full and deserving of celebration by all who were touched by this amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and loving friend. Her wishes for cremation will be fulfilled and the family is looking to celebrate her life on June 14, 2014 at 1 PM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 854 Memorial Dr, Avon Park, FL 33825 (863)385-4942.
