Walter F McGuire's Obituary
Walter Frederick McGuire, of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully early on the morning of March 27, 2018 with his family by him. Walt was born in Groton Boro, Connecticut on Aug. 5, 1928. He was the son of Alice Richardson McGuire and Frank A. McGuire. Walt joined the U.S. Marine Corp after high school and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was proud to have been a U.S. Marine and serve his country. When Walt was discharged he began a career as an electrician. He began working at ITT in New Jersey, Kennedy Valve in New York and ended his career with Masonite in Penna. Walt also owned and operated his own company as a seamless gutter installer.
Walt has been a Lake Placid resident for the past 24 years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church where he served as an usher for the past 10 years. He was the first commander of the Marine Corp League when it was started in Highlands County as well as being a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Walt is survived by his children, Walter (Debra), Moira Wall (Ronnie Elrod), Frank Scott, Lori Oldroyd (Chuck), Randy (Angie), James, and Cheryl McLaughlin; companion, Eva McLaughlin; and 16 grandchildren and he was blessed with 30 great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018. Burial will follow at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park with the U.S. Marine Corp Funeral Honor Team rendering military honors. Funeral arrangements are under the loving devotion of Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home, Lake Placid. 863-465-9997. Burial will take place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park at 12:45 pm.
