Lois Jane Shanks' Obituary
Lois Jane Shanks, 95, of Sebring died May 2, 2012 at Palms of Sebring she was born in Merino, Colorado to John and Lefa (Brammer) Ramsey. She was raised in Southern Iowa where her father was a farmer. she had polio when she was a child and missed most of a year of school. Because of the help of her mother and sisters she caught up with her peers and graduated from High School at age 16. Her late husband of 54 years, Rev. Martin Rea Shanks was in Belfast, N Ireland and was a GARBC paster in New York, Iowa, South Dakota and New Jersey. She supported him by teaching Sunday School and playing the piano and organ. He died on October 29, 1989 she moved to Maranatha Village in 1978 with her husband. Her love for the outdoors was obvious as she rode around Maranatha Village on her race carscotter twice a day. Lois has always had a positive can-do attitude and a love for the Lord who saved her. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Sebring in addition to her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her siblings, Roseamond Ramsey, Wilma Foland, Phyllis Bowe and Hazel Shileds. She is survived by her children, William Rea (Jancie Hall) Shanks, New Lenox, IL, Robert Maynard (Bonnie Plantholt) Shanks, Loveland, CO, Mary Joyce (Wesley) Hodgins, Anniston, AL and Daniel Lee (Lynn Thurston) Shanks of Oneonta, NY; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 5, 2012 at 11:00 am at Maranatha Baptist Church. Private Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cementery at 1:00 pm at our Garden Of Meditation. Contributions may be made to Maranatha Manor.
