Leroy C Burns' Obituary
LeRoy Clifford Burns, 91, of Lake Placid went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring.
LeRoy was the son of Evadne (Curtius) and Francis “Frank” Burns and was born on September 5, 1926 in Des Plaines, Illinois.
LeRoy served his country with honors during both WWII and the Korean War. After being discharged from the service, LeRoy worked as a blender for the Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery in Peoria, Illinois for over 20 years. In 1980, LeRoy moved from Illinois to Florida, built a new home and became a resident of Lake Placid where he worked as a lift driver for Consolidated - Tomoko Land Company for over 15 years prior to his retirement. LeRoy was active in the Masonic Lodge both in Lake Placid and Illinois, Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rites Bodies, Shrine and American Legion Placid Post 25 Lake Placid.
LeRoy is survived by his sister Dolores (Burns Mergen) Lee of Peoria, Illinois; his stepson Jerry (Rosita) Hunt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren (Lisa, Linda and Jerry), 6 great-grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren and 20 nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife Catherine (Darfus), his brother Ralph and sisters Grace (Brown) and Ramona (Welle).
A graveside service to celebrate LeRoy’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park. Masonic graveside services will be presented by the Placid Lodge 282 F&AM and military honors provided by VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard and US Army Honor Guard.
