Jonathan Travis' Obituary
Jonathan "Jon" Travis, 93 of Worthington passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Marion County on September 1, 1923 the son of the late Victor A. and Issie Mae Carpenter Travis.
Jon served as a paratrooper and technician fifth grade, with the 3rd Battalion 511th Parachute Infantry in the United States Army during WWII. He earned several decorations and citations for his military service. Jonathan retired as a Union Sheet Metal worker. Jon will be remembered for his friendly smile, pleasant sense of humor and his enjoyment of family gatherings.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Watkins and her husband Christopher of Pickens, South Carolina; his son, Jay Edward Travis and a grandson, Jason Watkins and his wife Barbara.
Also surviving are his brother, Fred R. Travis, Sr. of Bridgeport; four sisters, Victoria Hoey, Mary Sue Travis, Elaine Rogers and her husband James and Donna Carpenter and her husband Terry all of Fairmont and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, including a special niece Norma Jean.
In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Marteney Travis Hugus and his second wife, Irene Stecher Ellison Travis; a daughter, Delores Jean Travis; a sister, Venena Travis Maddox and her husband Charles and a brother-in-law, Walter Hoey.
