Jessie Ray Johnson's Obituary
Jessie Ray Johnson, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015 in Avon Park, FL. He was born on September 18, 1927 in Elba, AL to the late Horace and Mamie (King) Johnson. Jessie has been a resident of Avon Park since 1948 having come from Elba, AL. He served in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and then worked as a Correctional Officer at the Avon Park Correctional Institute. Jessie attended the Community Bible Church of Avon Park. He served as the church secretary/treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, a Deacon for many years, and taught youth in Sunday school at various other church's. Jessie loved fishing and gardening. He owned his own orange grove for more than 20 years. He especially loves his family and spending time with them. Jessie is survived by his wife: Lillian V. Johnson of Avon Park; daughters: Lisa (Rick) Eagerton of Wauchula, Linda Johnson of Sebring; brothers: James (Betty) Johnson of Zolfo Springs, Billy (Patricia) Johnson of Charelston, SC, Tommy (Virginia) Johnson of Wauchula; grandchildren: William (Julie) Eagerton of Dallas, TX, Kaitlyn (Jacob) Trew of Berea, KY, and Tyler Johnson of Avon Park. Jessie was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Arthur Johnson; sisters: Annie M. Gilliard, and Bonnie Johnson. A visitation for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Avon Park with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Interment at Lakeview Memorial Gardens will be held following the service.
