Jack Albert Lownsdale's Obituary
Jack Albert Lownsdale, Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 89, May 23, 2015. Born in Sarasota, FL on January 14, 1926. Jack joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and served in World War II from September 1944 to July 1946. After an honorable discharge, he joined the National Guard for several years, while beginning his lifelong career as a Journeyman Electrician at age 19. He then met his future wife Joy, in church in 1947 whom he called “the joy of my life” and they were married May 7, 1948. He taught Electrical Apprenticeship in the evenings after work for numerous years in Miami and continued teaching after retiring to Sebring at age 62. He liked traveling and camping with his family. He loved trains from boyhood and became an avid model railroading enthusiast, after retirement joining a local model railroading club in Sebring. Jack was a lifelong Methodist, a quite humble man who loved the Lord, devoting his life to family and church where he served in numerous offices in any church he was a member of throughout his life. He volunteered electrical work for Habitat for Humanity, the church and others in the community. Jack survived Bladder Cancer and subsequent surgery at the age of 83 and after recovery he was ready to “get on with his life.” Throughout the years, just by living a good Christian life, Jack had a positive influence and inspired many lives more than he ever realized. He was a patient, calm thinking man, and never judged anyone. Ready to lend a hand (or two) whenever anyone could use his help, counsel, or prayers. He was what his children called the “perfect dad” and that Jack and Joy were the “perfect parents.” His truly good, Christian lifestyle and love will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is preceded in death by his much loved wife of 60 years, Joy who passed at the age of 80 in August 2008 and sister, Helen Scarboro of Wimauma who recently passed away. Jack is survived by his children: Patricia Best; Jack Lownsdale, Jr. and Joy Lynn Tahernia. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Brian Best; Ashley,David and Jason Lownsdale; Cameron Tahernia, and his sister, Roberta Richardson of Sebring. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at St. John United Methodist Church at 1:00pm with the service following at 2:00pm with Reverend Ronald DeGenaro, Jr. officiating.
