Everett R Ohrt's Obituary
Everett R. Ohrt, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 26, 2016 in Sebring, Florida. He was born on May 8, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa to Ralph John and Hazel (Parks) Ohrt.
Everett was united in marriage to his late wife, Florene on October 3, 1942 in Yuma, AZ while he was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Everett and his wife of 72 years, moved to Sebring in 1972, where they owned and operated Ohrt’s Mobile Village and Hammock Mobile Estates, coming from North Mankato, MN. They attended Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sebring. Thru out his life “Ev” worked at and mastered many roles. He helped build and later became an announcer at a radio station in Mitchell, SD, was station manager at KSUM radio in Fairmont, MN, account executive at radio station KOTE in Fergus Falls, MN, account executive at KEYC-TV in Mankato, MN and V.P. (Acct’s) at North Western National Bank, also in Mankato, MN. “Ev” had a passion for radio and was an amateur radio operator (HAM) for 60 + years (K0OFF). He enjoyed hunting, traveling (making many trips to WY to hunt deer and antelope) fishing and golf. He even got a hole-in-one at age 87. Memberships he was involved in were the Zurah Shrine in Fairmont, MN and the Masonic Lodge in Mound, MN. Everett is survived by his children: James Everett (Linda) Ohrt; Jennifer Alice (Tom) Solyntjes and Jeri Kay (Santos) Roman all of Sebring, his grandchildren: Brian (Christine) Ohrt-Winter Haven, FL; Brad (Ashley) Ohrt-Dekalb, IL; Chris (Bethany) Solyntjes-Middleburg Heights, OH; Daniel (Summer) Solyntjes-Sebring, FL; Alexandra “Alex” (Mike) Wagner-Orlando, FL and Victoria “Tori” Roman-Sebring, his great-grandchildren: Kyle Ohrt; Carson Ohrt; Ella, Vera, Liam and Willa Solyntjes. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ralph and Hazel, wife, Florene and sister, Marion Sorenson. There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, March 4, 2016, beginning at 1:00 pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church (Sun N Lake) Sebring with Pastor Tom Schneider officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm at the church. Interment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to New Testament Church and Mission, 604 Lemon Ave., Sebring, FL 33870 or Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4500 Sun N Lake Blvd., Sebring, FL 33872.
